Headteachers Welcome
St. Stephen’s Infant School is the only Infant School in the historic city of Canterbury. We share our wonderful green site with St. Stephen’s Junior School and Squirrels Pre-School. Our school is set in beautiful grounds, with spacious classrooms which all boast outdoor learning areas. The Forest School and Outdoor Classroom is important to the school as we believe these opportunities help pupils at our school to flourish. Our Indoor Classrooms are well-resourced and our school library is at the heart of the school as we are passionate about reading, you might even find a guinea-pig waiting to be read to.
St. Stephen’s Infant School prides itself on having a family feel and welcoming everyone. Our school community is supportive and parents and carers have high opinions of the education that we provide. The school motto “Together We Shine” was created with all stakeholders and by working together we truly create citizens that are creative and achieve. The school values run through the core of school life. Children are taught how to be Safe in school and at home, when they truly feel Secure in their environment they can thrive. The well-balanced curriculum is delivered in a way that means the pupils are Happy to learn and they become more and more Independent throughout their Infant learning journey. Most importantly the pupils are Nurtured at all times to excel. Our Expectations are high, of ourselves, of the pupils and of our community. Pupils raise their expectations of themselves and know that they can expect to receive a first-class education.
The National Curriculum is implemented with purpose at St Stephen’s Infants School through rich and wide experiences, providing children with the knowledge and skills to become passionate learners. Teachers know that pupils need to rehearse what they have learnt through practising skills in different ways, including through purposeful and directed play. Pupils are challenged and supported accordingly ensuring all pupils meet or even exceed age related expectations in all subjects. They produce high quality work that they are proud to of and are well prepared for the next stage of their school career, academically and socially.
I am fortunate to be the custodian of such a unique and creative setting with amazing pupils and talented staff. We host Open Days at regular intervals throughout the year and should you wish to find out more or arrange a visit, please call the school office.
